Community Involvement

Getting involved with the Baptist Church can be a fulfilling and spiritually enriching experience.
“Contribute to the needs of God’s people and welcome strangers into your home.” Romans 12: 13
Kilmarnock Baptist Church embraces this scripture through its diverse opportunities to serve and welcome ALL and for ALL to find a way to be involved.

  • THE WOMAN’S MISSIONARY UNION:  Few at KBC would dispute that the WMU is active throughout the year in local, state, and international mission activities.  Its outreach is wide and varied from a birthday party for nursing home residents, dinner for the doctors at the Free Health Clinic, cookies for teacher appreciation, providing Christmas for the orphans in a home in Kenya, Africa, supporting an orphanage in Virginia, supporting a missionary in Panama, supporting the Christian ministry education program in Myanmar, collecting Bibles for the prison chaplain, raising money for disaster relief, supporting the KBC food pantry, sponsoring the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox ministry, collecting school supplies for local school students, and collecting items for The Haven.  This is an active group that always reflects the needs of the people surrounding them.  The members provided up-to-date information and training to church members through its literature and programs.  All are welcome to attend the WMU monthly meetings on the second Tuesday at 10:30 am.  For additional information, please call 804-435-1703 or email info@kilmarnockbc.org.

  • THE FOOD PANTRY: What started off as a few bags of groceries in a Sunday School classroom has now grown into a program that serves hundreds of local individuals each month.  It partners with the Healthy Harvest Food Bank in Warsaw and with USDA, which provides food through two government programs: The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for those who meet the income and age guidelines.Regardless of its growth, the pantry continues to provide quality, nutritious food to those in need throughout our local community.  All the work is done through the volunteer team (all are welcome to be part of this group) and the support received from other local churches and organizations who provide food and financial support.

The Food Pantry is open from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.  New clients in need are always welcome.  Please call the church office at (804) 435-1703 if you have questions or need assistance with an emergency.

  • THE RADIO AND YOU-TUBE MINISTRY  The Sunday Worship Service is broadcast over radio station WKWI Bay 101.7 FM at 11:00 a.m.  Tune in if you’re not able to attend in person.  (There is a one-week delay in the recorded broadcast.)The service is also provided on YouTube.  Be sure to search or subscribe to Kilmarnock Baptist Church in Kilmarnock, VA to watch/listen to the service. Both teams are always seeking volunteers to assist with these two ministries.  Consider getting involved by calling 804-435-1703 and receiving additional information.

  • JOY:“Just Older Youth” is a great way to get involved with other members of KBC and folks from the community who join JOY for its “field trips” to local attractions, special programs, movies, projects involving gifts for local shut-ins, and fellowship.  The Just Older Youth (JOY) Senior Ministry is open to all senior members of KBC and any other senior adults in the community.  It meets at 10:00 a.m. on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Please call 804-435-1703 for additional information.

  • PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY:  This ministry was started by people who love to knit and who love to share with others.  It has grown to be a ministry that provides shawls and love to many in our community who are ill, facing serious life-changes, or who need to know someone cares.  “Knitters” and “crocheters” gather monthly at KBC to share stories, their skills, and their desire to be of service to others.  Please call 804-435-1703 to become part of this ministry.

  • MEMORIAL GARDEN MINISTRY:  The KBC Memorial Garden was started as an Eagle Scout Project by S. W. Dawson in 2003 and dedicated on December 21, 20003.  Today it is a quiet place where people may go to remember and think about loved ones.  No brick is identical to another and it has become a place to reflect upon the past and think about the future.  If you would like to purchase a brick in honor or memory of a loved one, please call 804-435-1703 for more information.
